Call for PhD grant application: Metabolomics in Neonatology

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in applying for a personal grant for carrying out a PhD at our group (http://www.perinox.es/). The grants are sponsored by La Caixa and the European Union (LA CAIXA 2017 INPhINIT; https://hosts.lacaixafellowships.org/finder) and offer a 3-year employment contract and a personal career development plan including mobility opportunities and complementary training. Our project is entitled "Minimal invasive biomarkers for the personalized treatment of neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)". The objective of this project is to gain a deeper insight into disease mechanisms triggered by HIE and subsequently identifying early, minimal-invasive, reliable metabolic biomarkers for diagnosis and staging of HIE patients. In this project, untarget metabolomics employing different high resolution analytical platforms will be employed for linking clinical outcomes of newborns with HIE to early changes in the plasmatic and/or urinary metabolome. The study will have access to biofluids collected within the frame of two double-blinded, randomized placebo-controlled parallel group multicenter national and international trials for superiority, respectively, specifically the HYPOTOP Trial granted by the Instituto Carlos III (Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and the ALBINO Trial granted by the European Union (H2020 Call). The study will benefit of the possibility to correlate metabolomics with clinical, electrophysiological and neuroimaging data and neurodevelopmental examinations of controlled cohorts undergoing hypothermia treatment.
