Job description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for characterizing the primary and secondary metabolomes of samples from rare bacteria and microalgae. The goal of the project is to identify and quantify known and discover novel metabolites of such organisms. For this purpose, state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques (untargeted and targeted high resolution LC/MS(/MS) as well as GC/MS) and data analysis methods are applied. In a subsequent step, a functional characterization of selected metabolites is planned using various infection-related bioassays. The project involves close collaborations with four European partners that are leaders in marine biotechnology.

Candidates should be highly motivated, hold a PhD in bioanalytical chemistry or related disciplines and have high-profile publications in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should be able to design and conduct bioanalytical experiments independently. Solid knowledge in mass spectrometry, metabolomics, microbiology and/or data analysis is important. Additionally, experience in biochemistry and bioinformatics will be considered an advantage.

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research provides modern laboratories, up-to-date instrumentation for molecular profiling, in vivo test facilities, a lively scientific community and excellent support for the development of personal soft-skills that will provide the ideal background to further develop the career of successful candidates.

Equal Opportunities are part of our personnel policy – qualified women are especially invited to apply. With equal professional qualification, severely disabled persons will be prioritized.

Starting date:
As soon as possible. The contract will be for 18 months.
