USDA ARS Postdoctoral Opportunity

The USMARC has decided to take a step towards generating large scale output of metabolomics using LC-MS based instrumentation (Waters; Q-TOF and Triple Quadrupole) to help define and understand numerous phenotypes in meat animals (cattle, sheep and swine).  Therefore we would like to identify a postdoctoral candidate that has solid knowledge in the instrumentation, but more importantly we need someone who can bridge the gap from raw LC-MS and LC-MS/MS data to annotated compounds.

The primary project for the currently advertised postdoc would be to help isolate, annotate, and identify compounds that would be used as biomarkers in young swine to select females that would ideally handle the demands of rearing up to 4 litters of piglets without substantial strain on their physiological condition. In the US, the number of females that fail to remain in the herd after their first litter is approximately 40% of which, a vast majority are due to reproductive failure. We believe it would be prudent, both economically and for the welfare of the animal, if we could potentially identify those animals that will only rear their first litter of piglets and not remain a viable member of the herd.

Please refer to the attached advertisement. Current CV and letter of interest may be directed to Dr. Lea Rempel at lea.rempel@ars.usda.gov. USDA ARS research associate positions are very competitive and include a benefits package. Further information will be available at USAJobs.gov in the very near future.

We are still seeking a qualified candidate for this position.  Anyone interested in developing and advancing an analytical chemistry program is strongly encouraged to apply.
